Though the planet would later be remembered as one of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s "thirteen colonies," closely associated with the [[Titan (group)|Titan]]s and [[Shockwave (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Shockwave]]'s [[Regenesis]] ores, {{storylink|Last Stand (Unicron)|Last Stand}} the inhabitants of Gorlam Prime were apparently unaware of their planet's dark history. {{storylink|Homecoming (IDW)|Homecoming}} At some point in the recent past, [[Nova Prime]]'s operative [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]] arrived on the planet; in preparation for the [[Expansion]] of the [[Dead Universe]], he began surreptitiously interfering with the development of the natives, {{storylink|Spotlight: Hardhead}} artificially accelerating their cultural and social development only a few years after the end of their Industrial Revolution. 

When [[Nightbeat (G1)|Nightbeat]] landed on the planet circa [[2006]], he was struck by the unexpected technological sophistication of the Gorlamites and their increasingly cybernetic bodies; an early clue that not all was as it seemed on the planet. Indeed, several Gorlamites had already reached the ultimate endpoint of their artificial evolution; in order to survive the hostile conditions of the coming Dead Universe, they had graduated to fully-robotic bodies, resembling small [[Transformer]]s. {{storylink|Spotlight: Nightbeat}} Those Gorlamites who had undergone this development found a new role as Jhiaxus's new lackeys, but were eventually killed by [[Arcee (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Arcee]]. {{storylink|Spotlight: Sideswipe}} {{storylink|Spotlight: Hardhead}}

In the meantime, Nightbeat returned to the planet, but found that the remaining Gorlamites had ground to a halt; a "chrysalis state" before the population completed its ultimate evolutionary transition. {{storylink|Spotlight: Hardhead}}  After an unspecified amount of time had passed, the Gorlamites awoke in wholly mechanical bodies, having severed the last vestiges of their organic heritage, and redubbed their planet "Cybertron." {{storylink|Spotlight: Sideswipe}}

"Cybertron" and its inhabitants enjoyed a brief period of prosperity, becoming known as one of the pinnacles of cyber-organic life in the galaxy, {{storylink|Heart of Darkness issue 1|Heart of Darkness #1}} but this peaceful period was not to last.
