The '''magnetic dysfunction ray''' was developed by [[Nergill|King Nergill]] of [[Sub-Atlantica]] for use against [[Transformer]]s.  It envelopes its target in a glowing field of energy, paralysing them by glitching their control interfaces.

Nergill tested his magnetic dysfunction ray on [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]], effectively immobilising the [[Autobot]].  [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] demanded he hand over the ray, and got a taste of it as well, though as Nergill observed, it wasn't nearly as effective at silencing the [[Decepticon]]. [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] were able to restore Wheeljack a short time later, by resetting his control interfaces.

In the meantime, Nergill went to [[Washington, D.C.]], where he used the dysfunction ray on the Autobots, sealing a Decepticon victory over the capital.  Wheeljack called in the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]]s, leading to [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] and [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] grappling.  Nergill was about to shoot both of them with the magnetic dysfunction ray when he was surprised from behind by Starscream.
