Working in conjunction with a sub-component known as the powertrack generator, the Timaeus drive manifests an energy construct that may be perceived by lower-dimensional beings as a closed race-track roughly 80 meters in diameter. This energy construct solidifies at the intended destination and bridges the dimensional gap, creating a surface for the auto-avatar to arrive on.

It was the ultimate result of the [[Timaeus Project]] on [[Earth]], an endeavor which led to the first instances of Cybertronians becoming Alternity. Accordingly, the Alternity closely monitor the timeline it originated in, dispatching [[Protector]]s to safeguard it due to the difficulty of intervening in their own collective past.

Taking place in the [[Binaltech]] research facility in [[Autobot City]], the Timaeus Project required the [[Autobot]] [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]], her [[spark]] placed in an experimental Binaltech body, to wear a consciousness-enhancing device near her brain while driving through a circular loop equipped with an acceleration field at a steady speed of 715 kilometers per hour. She did not especially understand what this would achieve, but Autobot scientist [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] assured her that it was a revolutionary new way to generate a super-dimensional space.
