After [[Isaac Sumdac|Professor Sumdac]] developed the turbo boosters as a prototype, [[Sari Sumdac|Sari]] took them to the [[Autobot Earth Base|Autobot base]] and presented them to an overjoyed Bumblebee. [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus]], who had just lectured Bumblebee on not thinking with his thrusters, reacted with disbelief, and [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]] immediately confiscated the boosters. A short time later, the Autobots came up against the super-fast [[human]] criminal [[Nanosec]] and Bumblebee discovered he was no longer the fastest thing around. He unsuccessfully tried to persuade Ratchet to install the boosters, and resigned himself to going without until Sari used her [[AllSpark Key]] on the sly to install them. Unfortunately the boosters proved uncontrollable, and after flattening Optimus and inadvertently helping Nanosec escape ''twice'', Bumblebee submitted that the others might have been right about them being a bad idea. Ratchet suggested Bumblebee transform into [[robot mode]], which was successful in deactivating the boosters.

When the Autobots realized that Nanosec's cybersuit was causing him to quickly age, Bumblebee used the boosters to lead Nanosec on a chase that sent him into old age. The [[Destronium]] Nanosec had been carrying became unstable and was in imminent danger of exploding. With [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] and [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]]'s help, plus his turbo boosters, Bumblebee carried the Destronium into the upper atmosphere, where it detonated harmlessly. The turbo boosters somehow survived and were recovered by the Autobots, though they were boxed up and stored at the Autobot base. There they remained until Bumblebee once again found his title as fastest thing on wheels under threat. The other Autobots refused to let him use the boosters to try and catch the mysterious [[Blurr (Animated)|blue racer]], but he secretly took them so he could take part in [[Master Disaster (Animated)|Master Disaster]]'s street races. The boosters allowed him to keep up with the blue racer, and Master Disaster invited him to the next race. Bumblebee entered the race with Sari riding along, only for [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]] to crash the party. Fortunately Bumblebee's turbo boosters helped keep him one step ahead of Blitzwing until the blue racer knocked the [[Decepticon]] out of the air. {{storylink|Velocity}}

Apparently the other Autobots let Bumblebee keep his boosters installed.
