After [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]] was damaged in an explosion inside [[Idea & Design Works Custom Wheels]], the [[human]] authorities, not knowing better, sent him to Wreck -n- Rule to be compacted. [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] was able to track him down and sent [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] and [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] to rescue him. {{storylink|Devastation issue 1|Devastation #1}} Despite some resistance from the [[Machination]]'s [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]], the two [[Autobot]]s made it to Wreck -n- Rule and explored it trying to find Ironhide. {{storylink|Devastation issue 4|Devastation #4}} They were eventually accosted by their Machination pursuers in [[Sunstreaker clone]]s, and Wheeljack was incapacitated. Hot Rod found it easy to manage the "amateurs", though. {{storylink|Devastation issue 5|Devastation #5}} [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] arrived on the scene, killing the [[Reese|last Headmaster]] remaining, and brought Hot Rod orders to evacuate the planet. Hot Rod refused, desiring to see the mystery of [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]]'s disappearance through.
