In an attempt to catch up with the ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]'' before it launched, [[Tailgate (G1)|Tailgate]] took a shortcut through the Mitteous Plateau. It cost him dearly, as he fell through the surface to a cavern below, where he was trapped. Slowly over the millennia, he inched towards his [[energon]] rations so that he could use them to blast through the ceiling and call for help.

Six million years later, [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]], and [[Rewind]] walked across the Mitteous Plateau on their way to the ''[[Lost Light]]''. They were interrupted by [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] and [[Whirl (G1)|Whirl]], who crashed in front of them from the sky. Just as Whirl was about to kill his opponent, a blast erupted from the ground and revealed Tailgate.
