When the G.I. Joe team received a transmission from the planet [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] requesting a meeting between the Joes and Cybertron's native robotic lifeforms, the humans were suspicious of the aliens' motives. As a precautionary measure, they primed the Coltonbolt network and aimed it at the top-secret [[Area Zero]] facility, where they had arranged for the Cybertronians to land, so that they could open fire if they proved hostile. Their otherworldly visitors turned out to be the evil [[Decepticon]]s, and fighting inevitably broke out; when the Coltonbolt was activated, [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] was at the epicenter of the blast and was destroyed, while [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] and [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] were only caught in the backwash and were able to survive. {{storylink|I Saw Three Ships}}
