	The Army Ants were created by corrupt industrialist [[Cesspool]]'s pollution of the environment irradiating normal ants and somehow mutating them into soldiers. After discovering what he'd created, Cesspool transported a battalion of Army Ants that included brawny hand-to-hand fighters, demolition experts, and flying ants armed with laser rifles to [[Mexico City]]. Once there, Cesspool shrank himself down to the size of his creations and used them as muscle against the [[G.I. Joe (team)\|G.I. Joe]] team that arrived to stop him from detonating the [[nuclear bomb]] he was using to hold the city for ransom. *The Army Ants are based on a lesser known [[Hasbro]] {{w|Army Ants (toy line)|property}} from the late 80s of the same name. Intended to compete with lines such as ''{{w|M.U.S.C.L.E.}}'' and ''{{w|Monster in my Pocket}}'', the Army Ants were tiny figurines of ''ant''hropomorphized ants dressed as soldiers with squishy abdomens that were sold in packs of 3 to 8 figures each. While the toys had a loose storyline revolving around orange and blue ants fighting over the resources of your backyard and, like [[G.I. Joe (franchise)|''G.I. Joe'']], each Ant had a special codename, the IDW interpretation casts both colors of ants as working together with very little in the way of individuality amongst their ranks aside from a few (admittedly stylish) hats.
