He was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He first started in animation in December, 1936 at Leon Schlesinger Productions. After a break serving in the US Navy during World War II, he returned to animating at [[Warner Bros.]] where he was part of the Friz Freleng unit. Bob Matz worked on many Warner shorts, and also &#039;&#039;Crusader Rabbit&#039;&#039;, the first made-for-television cartoon. Following the closure of the studio, he joined DePatie-Freleng, at which he was an animator on the main titles for &#039;&#039;The Pink Panther&#039;&#039;. He continued to animate prolifically throughout the &#039;60s and &#039;70s on &#039;&#039;Pink Panther&#039;&#039;, &#039;&#039;Peanuts&#039;&#039; and Warner Bros. shorts, as well as the occasional cartoon series. During the latter half of the &#039;80s, he worked on many of the [[Marvel Productions]] series, including &#039;&#039;[[Inhumanoids]]&#039;&#039;, &#039;&#039;[[My Little Pony]] &#039;n Friends&#039;&#039;, &#039;&#039;[[G.I. Joe (franchise)|G.I. Joe]]&#039;&#039; and &#039;&#039;[[Jem]]&#039;&#039; as a director. In 1987, he received the Animation Guild&#039;s Golden Award for his work.
