Meanwhile, in the Ministry of Science's cells, Oz reluctantly explains his history with the organization. The Pharoids were a pacifistic species, but were blessed with psychic abilities, and became prophets and advisers across [[Microspace]]. Before Oz was born, a small number of Pharoid seers claimed that they could not only see through time, but ''travel'' through it, and constructed [[Time Chamber]]s to aid them in this. Entering these sarcophagi, the "[[Time Traveler]]s" disappeared... but never returned as they had said they would. Around the same time, the entropy cloud first appeared—a connection noticed by many—and after its ability to consume planets was revealed, the Ministry of Science began rounding up Pharoids, including Oz, putting them to work tracking the Time Travelers... to no avail.

As Oz finishes the story, guards arrive to take him for an audience with Baron Daegon. Oz is quick to accuse the Baron of becoming a warlord, lost in fighting Karza rather than stopping the entropy cloud, but the Ministry's leader suggests that this can change now that the Pharoid is there to help them. Oz insists that he cannot solve things, and refuses to use his abilities to probe the storm again, prompting Daegon to ask what he learned the ''last'' time he did so—an event that left five other Pharoids with their skulls burst open!
