After enormous gold deposits were discovered beneath the mountain, Governor [[Harmon]] ordered a large-scale mining operation, leading hundreds of miners to begin excavating beneath the mountain, though critics claimed this would pose a severe environmental risk. This proved prophetic, as the mining took a heavy toll on the mountain's stability, causing a massive earthquake that severely damaged Rockville. While the [[Autobot]]s helped the people evacuate, [[Jolt (Cybertron)|Jolt]]'s analysis indicated the mountain was at risk of caving in within minutes, and that falling into the reservoir below would cause it to burst, triggering a flood that would completely destroy Rockville. Following a plan devised by [[Coby Hansen]], [[Optimus Prime (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] used a hose to drain the water from the reservoir while [[Scattorshot (Cybertron)|Scattorshot]] fired guided missiles down the mine shaft, hitting the base of the mountain and allowing it to be safely collapsed into the cavern, saving the town. {{storylink|Collapse}}
