			Sludge was a member of the Dynobots, the Autobots' demolition specialists during the early days of the [[Great War (G1)\|war]] on Cybertron. After learning that [[Shockwave (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity\|Shockwave]] may have been responsible for firing one of [[Project Dreadnought]]'s [[planetary engine\|planetary turbines]], [[Prowl (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity\|Prowl]] assigned the Dynobots to accompany [[Perceptor (G1)\|Perceptor]] on his investigation. Travelling into Decepticon-held territory, the team located the enormous crater left by the turbine's explosion but were almost immediately attacked by [[Jetfire (G1)\|Skyfire]]. The Decepticon scientist proved to be little match for the combined might of the Dynobots but as they celebrated their victory, all five were rendered inactive by a single blast from Shockwave.
