The name's right, and he's only written children's fare: mostly science and history, plus a dozen or so "Butt Ugly Martian" titles. The only TF book he's written is just "The Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye", ''BUT'', that is technically the title of this book, since "Deadly Paradise" is only on the interior pages. The publisher, artist, and 1986 date all match up, so I don't see how it couldn't be the same guy. Is that enough to go on, or do I need some additional confirmation, like his picture?
