Recognizability versus the association with supernatural/incomprehensible subjects is the reason for the distinction. Ninjas in particular, within culture of practicing arts that are meant to be perceived as supernatural, historically refer to their "transformations" as ''henge''. The anime itself also utilizes ''henge'', alongside most subcultural media in which ninja iconography is utilized. It really should be renamed.
