He led them into battle to serve as reinforcements for the Dinobots. He summoned Arcee to talk after he was done and informed her that he had decided to retire from the title of "Magnus". He kept his eye on Thundercracker as Wheeljack worked on restoring Skywarp. As soon as Skywarp was restored, he attacked the Autobots, forcing Ultra Magnus to take him down. 			Ultra Magnus met with General Flagg, who had arrived at the ''Ark'' after an alliance was forged with the Autobots. Magnus told the man that for the sake of their new alliance, he wouldn't inform Optimus Prime about his uncomfortable treatment under human custody. Flagg defended their actions and Magnus was forced to swallow his indignation as Flagg didn't buckle under the threat. Needing to work off some steam, Ultra Magnus went to run some combat exercises with the newly-revived [[Sideswipe (G1)\|Sideswipe]] and [[Blaster (G1)\|Blaster]]. He summoned Arcee to talk after he was done and informed her that he had decided to retire from the title of "Magnus". He felt he still needed to recover from the trauma of what Shockwave had done to him and he wanted Arcee to succeed him as the new Magnus. {{storylink\|Transformers (2023) issue 27\|Transformers #27}}

			Arcee agreed and Ultra Magnus immediately had her undergo the same trials he had to earn the rank, sending her on a "vision quest" via mind-link with him. While Arcee was on her mental journey, Optimus Prime expressed his doubts to Ultra Magnus about his decision to step down, but Magnus was unmoved. Arcee passed the trials and was rebuilt into a larger, more powerful form that bore some slight resemblance to her mentor. Ultra Magnus rechristened her "Arcee Magnus" and promised he would remain in his position until she was ready to take over completely. Optimus brought up that there had been times the Autobots had multiple soldiers carrying the Magnus rank and felt they couldn't afford his departure in the current situation on Earth. Ultra Magnus quietly agreed that he'd think about staying with the Autobots, even as doubtful in his own capabilities as he was. Arcee Magnus was soon presented to the rest of the Autobots as Ultra Magnus looked on proudly. 			The reason for his absence was soon discovered, as the Autobots came upon the Decepticons in the nearby forest, with Megatron standing over Trailbreaker's mutilated corpse. Enraged, Optimus attacked and the battle was soon joined between the two factions. Ultra Magnus and Arcee Magnus followed a group of Decepticons away from the battle as they breached the ''Ark'' to rescue the captive Soundwave. They were forced to back off after three of the Constructicons formed a half-Devastator to smash their way out of the spaceship. Arcee Magnus rode atop Ultra Magnus's truck mode in pursuit as the Decepticons retreated, but the Autobots were halted when Elita One suddenly arrived to confront Optimus Prime. {{storylink\|Transformers (2023) issue 29\|Transformers #29}}
