:While it may never have been explicitly stated, I don't think there's any chance he could've been a Decepticon. The way the films portray the two factions is pretty consistent, with Canopy's attitude and head design both being quite friendly. When the TRF kill him it's presented as a big tragedy. I can't think of another non-turncoat Decepticon the films have treated this way. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but there haven't really been any unaligned bots in the movies themselves (other than Lockdown I guess). So yes, it's ''technically possible'' that he's a Decepticon, but if the scenario you present ''was'' the case then the movie itself would be making a big deal over it. It's not, so that's not what happened. While it may never have been explicitly stated, I don't think there's any chance he could've been a Decepticon. The way the films portray the two factions is pretty consistent, with Canopy's attitude and head design both being quite friendly. When the TRF kill him it's presented as a big tragedy. I can't think of another non-turncoat Decepticon the films have treated this way.
