[edit]Abner and Dodd were part of a military unit tasked to protect a federal cash shipment travelling on train from Denver to California. On the trip, Dodd chatted with Abner about the fortune contained within the train. Soon afterward, Dodd noticed a train chugging right towards their own. The strange train, the Insecticon's locomotive mode, crashed into the federal transport and all of the troops were flung aside.
On the ground, Abner noted that the attacking locomotive was "breaking apart", only to be corrected by Dodd. Hearts of Steel #2
"Strange Visitors" establishes that events identical to those of Hearts of Steel and Infestation 2 occur in the 2005 IDW continuity; however, they happened to Maximal explorers brainwashed by Shockwave into believing they were the Autobots and Decepticons of the Great War.
