Rock beats scissors

When Optimus Prime, Ratchet and Prowl were unexpectedly transported to Zenag's world, they were beseeched by the Cloran to defend them from his barbaric assaults. Unable to refuse, the Autobots complied and prevented any further incursions into Cloran territory, so Zenag offered them a deal - allow his army to continue unhindered and he would give them a device that could return them to Earth. Judging Zenag to be untrustworthy, Optimus turned him down and continued to battle the technorganic beasts - but using non-lethal means. That changed with the arrival of the Decepticons Shockwave, Thundercracker and Frenzy who promptly annihilated Zenag's warriors.

Learning that Zenag possessed the means to return to Earth, Shockwave sought him out and was offered a different deal - the device in exchange for the annihilation of the Autobots. Expecting this betrayal, Optimus, Ratchet and Prowl easily subdued the Decepticons while Prime outlined his suspicions: that Zenag's war was too similar to their own to be a coincidence and that they were being manipulated into conflict.

Immediately Zenag appeared and tried to persuade Shockwave to destroy Prime but the Decepticon was not convinced, pointing out that if Zenag was so powerful he could do it himself. Enraged, Zenag tore a piece out of Optimus's side but the Autobot leader set his mind against him and as Zenag tried to deliver the killing blow he faded from existence, along with the rest of his world.

The six Transformers found themselves floating in Limbo. The whole experience had been a group hallucination projected by slimy parasitic creatures who were feeding on the negative emotions it generated... though the wound Zenag had inflicted on Optimus Prime remained. Distant Thunder!
