Science Division

They were making FOR SCIENCE! speeches before they were in vogue.

The Science Division was a team on Cybertron before the war. Under the leadership of Optimus, it was tasked with various scientific duties, such as history, technology, and biology. In the case of the AllSpark, it was tasked with all three. With High Protector Megatron's Defense Force, they protected the All Spark and Cybertron.

Thousands of years ago, the Science Division, under the leadership of Optimus, was performing an archaeological dig near the Simfur Temple. Around the same time, they recorded four pulses from the All Spark when they broke ground on the site. During their dig, the Autobots discovered pieces of twelve relics, which Optimus and others theorized were somehow related to the All Spark. Protector Megatron was not very interested in the historical aspects, but more if they were potential sources of power similar to the All Spark or potential threats he and his Defense Force would need to deal with. While Megatron was touring the site, Arcee's team found an intact relic with a strange symbol on it. Protector Megatron wanted the relic removed at once, but Optimus insisted that they would need time to remove it safely. The two leaders were on the verge of another argument when unknown hostiles attacked Cybertron. Although Megatron wanted the Science Division to help in the defense, Optimus promised that the Science Division would defend the scientific interests of Cybertron while the Defense Force were free to conduct counter attacks. Megatron relented, but insisted that the intact artifact be removed to his quarters for safe keeping. Defiance #1

In the aftermath of the battle, the Science Division was tasked with medical duties and repair to the damage Cybertron had suffered. When Optimus went to consult Megatron, he found the High Protector had changed: Megatron announced that Cybertron was going to war! Optimus refused to allow his team to fight on the front lines, and reminded Megatron that the Defense Force was tasked with defense, saying offense would go against everything Autobot society was based on. Megatron slammed Optimus into the wall and announced their society would be changing, and Optimus was to assemble his team immediately. Optimus gathered the Science Division, but instead asked them to not join the counter attack. He asked them to remain and help in repair efforts in Metrotitan, abut those who wished to join the counter attack could do so without fear of reprimand. When he learned that Prowl's Security Force was still maintaining their assigned sentry duties, Optimus asked them for a favor. Defiance #2

Breaking into Megatron's quarters, Optimus discovered that the intact artifact was somehow restored. He was unable to make a further analysis, as the Defense Force was returning. Following the counter attack, Optimus, Ratchet, Elita-One, and Arcee began studying the remains. Optimus revealed that he had a moment to examine the intact artifact, and that it appeared almost brand new. Arcee then announced that she found a symbol on the relics, which was the same as the one on Optimus's head. Ratchet declared that this proved the Dynasty of Primes existed, and Optimus was somehow linked to them. Heading back to the dig site, Ratchet and Arcee were waiting for construction drones with Optimus, whom Ratchet had dubbed Optimus Prime. Prowl's team then came to arrest Optimus for treason, but as both teams were heading back to Trypticon, Starscream's team attacked them. The Autobots were able to fight them off and retreat for Burthov. Defiance #3

Following the outbreak of war, most of the Science Division joined the Autobots. Defiance #4
