| The defeat of D-Void was followed by the reversion of Cybertron into a primordial wilderness into which Megatron fled, leaving the leaderless Decepticons—the Constructicons among them—to live in the rebuilt [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], under the unstable governance of Bumblebee. | When Megatron returned to Iacon and his plan went into action, the Constructicons and Prowl combined into the new and improved Devastator, under the complete control of Bombshell via Prowl. Under Megatron's orders, the revamped Devastator proceeded to destroy Autobot High Command with the sweep of a hand. {{storylink|Before the Dawn}} The giant then continued on to the Iacon med-centre, which he also devastated, before menacing the Autobots, NAILs, and disillusioned Decepticons trying to defend it. Superion arrived from Cybertron's wilderness and proceeded to engage Devastator in combat, and two giants' battle continued for some time until, elsewhere, Bombshell was stabbed through the head by [[Arcee (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Arcee]]. With his controlling influence gone, Devastator fell into a stupor, just as Prowl—his mind still partially aware within the combiner—turned his thoughts to the one thing he and the five Constructicons agreed on: a hatred of Spike Witwicky. | On Earth, the Autobots turned their attention to searching for the lost [[Enigma of Combination]]. Prowl formed a temporary truce with Spike Witwicky to help infiltrate [[G.B. Blackrock|Garrison Blackrock]]'s [[Onyx]] facility, and deployed Devastator to spearhead the attack. {{storylink|Onyx Interface Part Three: ONoffON|ONoffON}} Although Devastator proved effective at tearing the building apart and temporarily secured the Enigma, his loathing of Spike - the man who had killed him once before - ultimately drove the combiner berserk and ruined the mission. Arcee finally managed to talk Devastator down and force him to split apart. | After Prowl learned that Starscream was planning to absorb [[Caminus (planet)|Caminus]] into the new "[[Council of Worlds]]", he and the Constructicons hijacked the Ark's new [[Space bridge|spacebridge]] to travel to Metroplex, intending to tear the spacebridge apart and cut Cybertron off from the rest of the galaxy. {{storylink|The Possible Light}} Combined once more, Devastator issued an ultimatum to the assembled Cybertronians and Camiens, but was interrupted by the new and improved Superion. Although Superion proved to be a nimble and clever fighter, Devastator was able to overpower him with brute force, and dragged his defeated foe back through the space bridge to Cybertron. He was briefly distraced by an Autobot-Decepticon alliance, allowing Starscream to use the Enigma on a group of bystanders and create Defensor. | Starscream sought to turn Devastator's power to his own end, and used the Enigma to rebuild Devastator once more. This new configuration incorporated Starscream's lackey [[Scoop (G1)|Scoop]] as Devastator's new right leg, omitting Prowl and returning the other Constructicons to their original configurations. Scoop's religious fanaticism and devotion to his "Chosen One" allowed him to override the other members of the team and force Devastator to obey Starscream's commands. His first mission was to stop Menasor from going on yet another rampage on Caminus. Unfortunately, Defensor misread the situation and attacked Devastator, sparking a four-way brawl between all of the combiners. Metroplex's malfunctioning space bridge sent the quartet tumbling onto an alien world, and things only escalated when the newly-born [[Optimus Maximus (G1)|Optimus Maximus]], under the control of Prowl, stepped in to intervene. {{storylink|You, Me, and the Universe}}

| Devastator was furious at Prowl for "abandoning" him, and this anger allowed Devastator to ignore Scoop's input and sock Optimus Maximus hard enough to knock him for a loop. Devastator, now completely out of control, teamed up with Menasor in a fight that spanned the colony worlds. Devastator had the upper hand as he pummeled him on [[Velocitron]], but he was restrained by Superion and Defensor before he could deliver a finishing blow. Devastator retaliated by kicking Optimus clear through the space bridge and onto [[Vigilem|Carcer]], but his enemy quickly got his act together and dove back through the portal. Optimus's counterattack threw the Constructicons off balance and allowed all three Autobot combiners to pile onto him, tearing him into his components. | In the aftermath, Starscream allowed Devastator to recombine so that Superion could safely extricate the Constructicons off of Cybertron.
