While exploring the Forbidden Zones over 9 million years ago, Megatron discovered the entombed ruins of an ancient civilization. And in the hands of giant statues of the ancient Transformers Dai Atlas and Deathsaurus he found the Golden Disk, which proved the Council of Ancients dogma was a lie.
