Millions of years ago on Cybertron, Fusion was assigned to escort Bluestreak on a mission to deliver shatter bombs to the Autobot military commander Optimus Prime. Ignoring his own safety, Fusion focused on picking off the Decepticon jets which were hounding his partner. Fusion is based on Optimus Prime's infamous collection-of-shapes vehicle mode from that issue, though attempts by artist John Stokes to make said collection of shapes make sense result in Fusion looking like some kind of backwards-driving jeep.
