Shockwave invented and launched the stratosiphon, but the technology proved flawed—the catalytic process was generally inefficient and generated severe air pollution. The Autobots destroyed the platform, but Shockwave decided that the theory was sound enough to justify an eventual second launch at one of Earth's poles. Decepticon Directive
