Another one of Megatron's inventions, the "global warming satellite" is a device meant to be brought into Earth's upper atmosphere and detonate there. That way, a rare kind of gas will be released in the planet's atmosphere, which will trap the sun's heat and cause the Earth's surface temperature to increase enormously. This heat Megatron intends to convert into energon and fuel his army with.

[edit]Megatron had the satellite brought to the desert in Arizona, where it was readied for launch. In fact, only two minutes were left on the countdown when Prowl and Wheeljack discovered the launch site, having been sent to Arizona by Optimus Prime to investigate reports on Decepticon activity in the area. Convinced his two Stunticon soldiers could keep the two Autobots in check, Megatron revealed the satellite's purpose to them. The knowledge that Earth was in danger left Prowl and Wheeljack with no other options than to at least try to stop the launch and so they attacked the three Decepticons. Starting Over! Prowl got close enough to the satellite to hitch a ride when it launched, and destroyed its engines before it reached Earth's atmosphere. However, the resulting explosion also flung the satellite and Prowl to somewhere unknown. Desert Island Risks! Wheeljack contacted the Ark as soon as possible to ask assistance against the three Decepticons and get his comrades to look for the satellite and Prowl. Break-Away! Moreso the satellite, as it was feared the gas canisters had survived the crash.

The hunt wasn't exactly made easier by the fact Megatron had the same expectations and was already preparing the launch of a second satellite while Drag Strip and Dead End were dispatched to retrieve the canisters. And not only that, but Megatron's rival for Decepticon leadership, Shockwave knew about the satellite, its crash and the possibility the canisters had survived the crash. Looking for a way to one-up Megatron, Shockwave built his own satellite and sent out the Battlechargers to fetch the canisters. Coincidentally, the Battlechargers and Stunticons found the canisters in Louisiana at exactly the same time and began fighting over them. Jazz and Sunstreaker arrived mere seconds later, unsure whether to enter the fight for the gas canisters or not. Just then, they were approached by a man who asked them to come to his house, where Prowl greeted them oddly unconcerned. Noting his comrades' distress, he explained that he had safely emptied the canisters days ago already and that the Decepticons were fighting over a worthless prize. Life in the Slow Lane
