Unsurprisingly did nothing for Starscream's dysfunctional behavior.

The magnetic dysfunction ray was developed by King Nergill of Sub-Atlantica for use against Transformers. It envelopes its target in a glowing field of energy, paralysing them by glitching their control interfaces.

The Transformers cartoon

[edit]

Nergill tested his magnetic dysfunction ray on Wheeljack, effectively immobilising the Autobot. Starscream demanded he hand over the ray, and got a taste of it as well, though as Nergill observed, it wasn't nearly as effective at silencing the Decepticon. Spike Witwicky and Bumblebee were able to restore Wheeljack a short time later, by resetting his control interfaces.

In the meantime, Nergill went to Washington, D.C., where he used the dysfunction ray on the Autobots, sealing a Decepticon victory over the capital. Wheeljack called in the Dinobots, leading to Megatron and Grimlock grappling. Nergill was about to shoot both of them with the magnetic dysfunction ray when he was surprised from behind by Starscream. The gun was subsequently destroyed by Grimlock, and its effects faded from the Autobots. Atlantis, Arise!

Ask Vector Prime

[edit]

In Primax 1185.04 Alpha, when threatened with destruction by Cobra, the Sub-Atlanticans betrayed their Decepticon allies, using the magnetic dysfunction ray to lock Megatron in his alternate mode in stasis lock, turning over the immobilized invader to Cobra Commander. Ask Vector Prime, 13/06/2015
