After Sam told the sheriff about how his car "just stood up," the sheriff believed he was under the effects of some sort of drug, judging by the bottle of pills found on him labeled "Mojo"... which were actually meant for Sam's pet chihuahua.

Still believing Sam was guilty of something, he then tried to frame him for wanting to steal his gun, while also comparing him to 50 Cent. Sam's father bailed him out shortly after this, and they never saw the sheriff again. Transformers

The Sheriff's involvement in the preceding events, or events mostly similar, were also chronicled in the novels "Transformers," "Transformers: The Junior Novel" and "The Quest for the AllSpark"; the "Transformers: Movie Adaptation" and "Movie Trilogy" comics."
