Drillbuster is an Autobot Micromaster from the Zone portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Drillbuster can breathe in space! ... wait, he doesn't breathe. Never mind.

Drillbuster (ドリルバスター Dorirubasutā) is the Micromaster partner to the Autobot Roadfire, and helps him fend off the Nine Great Demon Generals.

Beast Wars: Uprising

[edit]

On a post-war Cybertron, Drillbuster was one of the few Builders of Cybertron that retained his mobility in fuel-starved times, thanks to his more efficient Micromaster body. When an anti-government faction arose, the Resistance, Drillbuster was made part of a team to help counter their terrorist activities.

Said team, under the command of Hot Rod, learned that their opponents had managed to steal the G-Virus, a potent weapon capable of transforming anyone exposed to it into a copy of Galvatron. Through his sources, Drillbuster learned that the Maximal rebel Grimlock was most likely the one who orchestrated the virus's theft. With this information, Hot Rod was able to accurately predict the Resistance's next target. Hot Rod posted Drillbuster as a guard in Tesarus Arena. When the attack inevitably came, Drillbuster was instructed to stay in place, just in case Grimlock's assault was a diversion for a bigger attack. It wasn't, and so Drillbuster missed out on all the action. Micro-Aggressions

Drillbuster remained part of the Micromaster command team as the Resistance made their final push on the High Pavilion of Iacon. Ratbat and the Builder Assembly insisted the Micromasters continue fighting the Resistance all the way to the Pavilion, though it meant guerrilla tactics or even open warfare in civilian areas. Anything to slow the Resistance down until the Vehicons hordes arrived from the rear. Drillbuster and the Micromaster commanders objected to the idea of accepting innocent casualties for a delaying tactic, and claimed communications were breaking down in order to ignore the Assembly's orders. Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers

[edit]

Drill tanks are generally pretty impractical designs, but Drillbuster here wins the award for being the most useless. Also, missing his windshield sticker.
  • Roadfire (Powerd Master, 1990)
  • ID number: C-349
Drillbuster transforms into a Cybertronic drill tank. He was only available with his larger partner Roadfire, whose "base" mode has a ramp mechanism to launch the tiny Transformer.
His gray windshield sticker will not stay on unless you glue it down, as the stickers of the later Japanese Transformers toylines were semi-thick paper with weak adhesive, not exactly good for applying to a rounded surface. (Which is why the picture at right lacks the decal, it got lost.)

  • Big Powered (Multi-pack, 1990)
  • ID number: C-353
All three Powered Masters (Sonic Bomber, Dai Atlas, and Roadfire) as well as their Micromaster partners were also available in a great big gift set. All of the toys in this set are identical to their individual releases.
This set is particularly expensive on the secondary market today, being pretty late-run (thanks to Roadfire's late release) at a time when Transformers had already seriously started to wane in sales and popularity.

Notes

[edit]
  • Drillbuster is unique among the Powered Master Micromaster partners in that he does not transform into a sports car.
  • His character model served as the basis for Hayato Sakamoto's fan character Sunshine.
