The name or term "Dinobot" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Dinobot (disambiguation).
The Dinobots are a subgroup from the Beast Machines portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
"Everyone a little to the left — no, MY left. Oh, whatever."

The Dinobots were created by the Oracle to aid in the battle against Megatron's Vehicons. At his death, the Maximal Dinobot's spark, containing all the data gathered in his life, had joined with the Allspark and so was available to the Oracle.

The Oracle reformatted a group of survivors of Megatron's virus and Vehicon hordes using dinosaur DNA information from Dinobot, giving them new technorganic bodies. And with the addition of the spacefaring Predacon warrior Magmatron, the new Dinobots were born.

Fast ship? You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon?

The Dinobots were part of the Oracle's big gathering of forces in 316 AU, sent to carry out mysteeeerious missions to save Cybertron—which was unfortunately for them a bogus mission sent by the Quintessons. When the Dinobots arrived on Arkus, they found the planet dead and Quintesson monsters waiting for them. Departure Betrayal Airraptor, Rapticon and Magmatron died (and Striker went missing) so the others could escape.

The surviving Dinobots, under T-Wrecks, made it to Spaceport CSSB-16 where they picked up the stowaway Reptron The Wreckers: Finale Part 1 and met Devcon, who was looking for aid. Disclosure

What the hell kind of Triceratops looks like this?!
The Dinobots subline was released alongside the Beast Machines toyline, in similarly-designed packaging. It consisted entirely of redecos of existing toy molds, and brought together almost every prehistoric beast design from the US Beast Wars toyline and the 1999 portion of the Japanese Beast Wars toyline (most of the handful of prehistoric creature molds that weren't included would show up in the similarly named Walmart toyline soon after). Many of the Japanese-original Beast Wars molds also saw their first release in Hasbro markets through this toyline.
The molds were generally complex ones, typical of the Beast Era. Their mixed heritage meant that while some were "realistic" organically-styled dinosaurs, others were mechanical interpretations of their beast forms.
Though released concurrently with the Beast Machines toyline, and still considered to be a part of it; taking up spaces within the line's wave releases, the Dinobots subline actually features no Beast Machines branding at all, instead it is just simply called "Transformers: Dinobots" on the packaging. The only indicator that it is connected to the Beast Machines line at all is the styling of the Transformers logo and some of the packaging's other design elements. Another confusing element of the packaging is the placement of the size class descriptor on the Deluxe cards, placing it directly above the Dinobots logo, which makes it read as "Deluxe Dinobots", as if that were the name of the subline, though as size class descriptors are missing from the logos on T-Wrecks and Magmatron's packaging, it seems to be an isolated oddity, and shouldn't be taken as part of the subline's actual title.

Notes

[edit]
  • Dinobot's DNA being used to create the Dinobots is information from their packaging writeups. How the Oracle used Dinobot's Velociraptor DNA to create a wide variety of dinosaur (not to mention the pterosaur and plesiosaur) Transformers is unknown.
