The Ice Age Wars is a sub-conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, waged on Earth during a pre-human Ice Age. To survive in the cold, they take alternate forms based on quite random the most powerful local creatures!

A team of Maximal explorers under Domitius Major made a detour to Earth to pick up energon supplies. Unfortunately for them, they were shot down by Shockwave to protect his experiments and the last thing they saw before crashing was a stray transmission from Optimus Prime. This gave Shockwave the idea of making the Transformers think they were Optimus Prime and other Cybertronians, to see what would happen.
