[edit]King Atlas was the commander of the Transformer army based on the planet Combatron, stationed as part of the efforts to construct a galaxy-wide Space Bridge. Long ago, he inexplicably vanished, and the result was an endless planetary civil war all across Combatron. Force of Habit

When Trailbreaker and Silverbolt cut the security systems that kept Unicron's prisoners in their cells, King Atlas was part of the swarm of Cybertronians who made their escape. Escape Following his escape he joined Optimus Primal and the Children of Primus in battling Unicron's minions in what would become known as the Universe War. Homecoming
King Atlas would later team up with Depth Charge to set up an underground network to free Unicron's captives from the Cauldron. Universe Depth Charge profile

[edit]
- King Atlas (Ultra, 2004)
- Takara release date: May ??, 2004
- Accessories: 6 missiles
- Known designers: Aaron Archer (Hasbro), Marcelo Matere (packaging artist)
- Part of "wave 2.5" of Universe Ultras (functionally wave 4), King Atlas is a redeco of the Generation 1 Decepticon Predator Skyquake in a rather Star-Wars-y deco complete with dirt-wash "wear" paint, transforming into a pretty much made-up jet based (loosely) on the Blackbird recon plane. Like the other U.S. release of this mold, Machine Wars Starscream, it lacks the original spring-loaded missile launcher hand-weapon due to there being no way in hell it would pass U.S. safety testing. It does retain the "carpet bombing" gimmick in its wings, plus the light-pipe and "periscope" gimmicks.
- His stock photography has the entire wing/engine area painted black, while the final toy just has the rounded engine casings and vents in black.
- King Atlas received a "USA Edition" release in Takara markets in May 2004 via boutique retailer e-HOBBY. Like most USA Editions, the toy and packaging were unchanged save for a "USA Edition" sticker on the box.
Notes
[edit]- Hasbro Transformers Design Director Aaron Archer said that this figure was deliberately colored to resemble Dai Atlas. A bio written for the toy by 3H Productions would have cemented King Atlas as the same character as Dai Atlas (and thus would have made "King Atlas" the English name for Dai Atlas), but said bio was ultimately never published, leaving its canonicity in limbo. Consequently, the lack of any published bio information for the toy led "Force of Habit" to instead establish King Atlas as a distinct Unicron Trilogy character by this wiki's classification, while Dai Atlas later went on to appear in various English-language media using his original name.
- Proposed but unrealized Fun Publications BotCon exclusives included redecoes of Universe Silverbolt into Skyquake/Scrash and Dai Atlas/King Atlas.[1]
- The trademark "King Atlas" was previously used for a Micronauts villain, who was one of Baron Karza's generals.
Foreign names
[edit]- Japanese: King Atlas (キングアトラス Kingu Atorasu)
