The Origins of Evil is a series of back-up strips published in IDW Publishing's First Strike mini-series, charting the formation of the Iron Ring, the cabal of supervillains that menace Cybertron in the main story. The series also acts a prelude to Revolutionaries, in which the evil organization first appeared; accordingly, Revolutionaries writer and continuity maestro John Barber writes, with Netho Diaz, Walden Wong, and David García Cruz on art duties.

[edit]Concluding that the threat the Transformers pose to Earth has become too great, Joe Colton resolves to use the alien obelisk known as the Talisman to destroy them all, along with their homeworld. Knowing that his G.I. Joe team will not go along with the plan, Colton adopts the identity of "Baron Ironblood" to act outside the law, and recruits a team of the most dangerous criminals on Earth to aid him in his plan: European super-criminal Doctor X, along with her ninja aide Storm Shadow and Red Shadows ninja legion; metal-skinned munitioner Destro; Colton's former Adventure Team comrade/current leader of V.E.N.O.M. Miles Mayhem, Microspace minister of war Shazraella, and master cyberneticist Garrison Kreiger.
