| This article is about an elegant weapon for a more civilized age. For Springer's helicopter-blade weapon, see light saber. |
The lightsaber is the weapon of choice of the Jedi and the Sith. It is presumably an energy-based weapon and comes in a variety of colors—violet, red, blue, and green.
Darth Maul possesses a unique dual-bladed lightsaber. General Grievous possesses lightsabers, despite being neither a Jedi or a Sith.

Notes
[edit]- Generation 1 Springer's bio states that his helicopter blade becomes a light saber that can slice through concrete. Whether or not it's the same thing as the Jedi/Sith weapon is not clear, though unlikely.
- In the 1986 movie, both Megatron and Hot Rod use "Laser Daggers"[1] which are very similar to lightsabers. Megatron's Laser Dagger was purple, and Hot Rod's was orange. Ironically, Megatron's purple lightsaber-like weapon existed before an actual purple lightsaber was introduced into the Star Wars franchise.
- Predaking's primary weapon in the Generation 1 cartoon was a lightsaber, which was brought into existence by both a misinterpretation of his toy's details and his sword presumably being absent in any of the reference images given to animation staff. For more on this, see: Predaking (G1)#Notes.
Foreign names
[edit]- Japanese: Lightsaber (ライトセーバー Raitosēbā)
