- Labrat is a Maximal from the Beast Wars: Uprising portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Labrat is, as his name suggests, usually found inside a lab, methodically performing his latest experiment. Unlike some 'bots, he doesn't focus on science out of any actual joy or because of any big ideas. It's just his job, nothing more. Labrat's not one of nature's original thinkers, but that doesn't stop him from having a highly inflated opinion of himself, and a mercurial nature. He'll even work for Predacons if the price is right, and if it's even better, he'll likely sell them out too.

[edit]
Labrat was a low-level Maximal doing menial laboratory work in the science sector. He worked for Overdrive Edition Industries in Altihex for decades before being summoned by lottery to fight in the Games. Labrat refused, and went underground out of necessity, becoming a technician-for-hire to various unsavory elements. Labrat's profile
Eventually, Labrat became an agent of Megatron's Darksyders. He was paired with the exiled Builder scientist Leatherhide to work on Megatron's latest obsession: a Beast Upgrade for the proto-races. The two developed an exceptional partnership, with Labrat preparing the more delicate work that Leatherhide's bizarre beast-body could not. Soon they achieved success, and produced the Beast Upgrade to Megatron's specifications. Not All Megatrons
Acting as a legitimate business front selling the Beast Upgrade to all comers, the Darksyders established an open base of operations in Iacon itself. When the Vehicon Apocalypse came, Megatron immediately put Labrat and Leatherhide to work on counter-measures. They successfully combined cyber-venom, a reformatting pulse, and other macabre equipment to transform Wasp in mid-Vehicon conversion, arresting the process while allowing Wasp to access the Vehicon network and still retain his original personality. - Metals Rattle Special Version (Pack-in Deluxe, 1999)
- Accessories: Tail-whip
- The Deluxe Transmetal Rattrap toy was given a white and orange deco and packed in with a 500-piece Beast Wars Metals jigsaw puzzle from Central Hobby.
- Oddly, this toy uses the Hasbro "RATTRAP" tampograph on the rat mode back rather than the Takara "CYBERTRON" and symbol mark. This is likely due to the fact it was released long before Metals was released in Japan.
- This toy was also repurposed as the Shattered Glass incarnation of Rattrap.
Notes
[edit]
- His Beast Wars: Uprising bio includes mention of an internal phlogiston reactor.
- Christopher Colgin, who co-wrote Labrat's bio, envisioned the Cybertron Scout Class Brakedown mold for Labrat's pre-beast body.[1]
- By contrast in the 2021 Beast Wars comic, Josh Burcham gave Labrat the same Cybertronian character model as Rattrap, who was drawn as an interpretation of the BotCon 2006 toy made from Cybertron Ransack.
