The name or term "Whisper" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Whisper (disambiguation).

Whisper is a Decepticon Micromaster from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Whisper (aka Visper) is the leader of the Air Strike Patrol, a position he holds by being braver than Nightflight, smarter than Storm Cloud, and bolder than Tailwind. In fact, if he wasn't completely despicable, he'd probably make a good Autobot. Pity the position's taken.^[1]

"We'll totally blend in on Earth this way!"

Whisper and his patrolmates were the first Decepticon Micromasters to be created after Thunderwing's scientists reverse engineered the process from the captive Autobot Battle Patrol. When the Race Car Patrol infiltrated Thunderwing's base to rescue the Battle Patrol, the Air Strike Patrol were sent out to meet them as a field-test. Roadhandler was able to trick them into thinking that a deactivated bomb he was carrying was still live, allowing his team to rush the Decepticons and beat them down. The Autobots afterwards fled with their rescued comrades. A Small War!

Ironically, it's Nightflight who's whispering.

When Roadhandler became an overnight wrestling sensation on Earth, Scorponok called in help to end the Autobot's growing public adulation, and an unknown Decepticon sent the Air Strike Patrol. Whisper got to threaten physical harm against small children to force Roadhandler to take a dive against Storm Cloud, though he and his teammates were ultimately sent packing by the Race Car Patrol. The Interplanetary Wrestling Championship!

Unknown to Scorponok, the patrol's secret employer was Megatron, who then sent the team on a mission to MacDill Air Force Base to capture the B-204 refueling plane. Throughout the whole mission, Whisper had to rein in Nightflight and Stormcloud, both of which were intent on usurping his position as leader of their group. When the Autobots inevitably arrived, Whisper contacted Scorponok to tell him that they were under attack. Back from the Dead Skin Deep After a brief confrontation with Optimus Prime and the arrival of Scorponok's Decepticons, the Air Strike Patrol fled, their mission completed. The Resurrection Gambit!

They appear to have gone AWOL from the Decepticons after this, as Whisper was next seen as a private assassin with an open-ended contract to kill key Autobots. This in turn made Whisper a target of the Autobot Rescue Patrol, who damaged his wings and chased him into an Earthen forest. His patrolmates came to his aid, and the Rescue Patrol were called back by Optimus to stop the forest being destroyed. The Greatest Gift of All!

Whisper led his team across the southern United States, finally attacking an oil refinery. This was the same oil refinery where Hector Dialonzo, a human with extraordinary powers, was working, and he single-handedly destroyed the Air Strike Patrol. Whisper was the last to fall, quickly realising Hector's power and deciding to threaten workers to get him to back off. This just pissed Hector off and made him attack anyway! The Human Factor!

Marvel UK future timelines

In an alternate timeline, the Air Strike Patrol took Megatron's side in a Decepticon Civil War against factions led by Scorponok and Shockwave. They had a chance to kill a beaten Scorponok in 1991 but were stopped by the Autobots, as their battle was destroying a human city. Aspects of Evil!

Whisper of the Air Strike Patrol fought for the Builders in the Grand Uprising until he was captured by the Resistance. In Protihex, he was forced to fight in a new Games until a Vehicon nano-virus hidden among his fellow troops awakened. Visper, along with his comrade Storm Cloud, was a member of the terrorist organization The Rise. He was outed as a member of The Rise thanks to data that Windblade managed to collect from an abandoned Rise base. Visper and Storm Cloud joined Sixshot in an attempt to evacuate Barricade from Ascenticon Headquarters. Bumblebee tried to stop them, getting in a brawl with Visper. However, Skytread purposely sabotaged Bumblebee, allowing him to be defeated by Sixshot as Visper and Storm Cloud took Barricade away. The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part Five

Later, Storm Cloud and Visper were commandeered by Mindwipe for a mission to Iacon. All Fall Down Their intent was to get more energon out of Swindle for the cause. However, they were spotted by Security Operations and a fight broke out at Swindle's casino, with Visper taking Nightbeat down in the melee. The situation soon became unsalvageable, and Visper fled. Air Strike Patrol (Micromaster Patrol, 1988)

Whisper transforms into a black Stealth fighter jet loosely based on the apocryphal "F-19" design. He was available only as part of a 4-bot Patrol with his teammates Nightflight, Storm Cloud, and Tailwind. Whisper is gang-molded with Storm Cloud, sharing plastic colors.

Together with the Off Road Patrol and the Race Car Patrol, the Air Strike Patrol was released by Hasbro in late 1988 (basically, a case of "next year product" being released at the end of the old year), in packaging that differed from the "proper" 1989 Micromasters' redesigned packaging (silver cards and boxes featuring an all-new "Transformers" logo) by retaining a variation of the faction-specific color-coded gradient background on the card and featuring a unique "Micro Transformers" title in a variation of the old, pre-1989 "Transformers" logo. This same basic packaging design was also used for Canada (albeit bilingual English/French) and parts of Europe (bilingual French/Dutch, and Italian-only packaging distributed by GiG). However, a variant of sorts featuring the later 1989 packaging design also exists, and was released (in English-only packaging) in the United Kingdom, where it was sold at Woolworth's stores.

This toy was sold in Japan without changes as the Autobot Whisper from Zone. It was redecoed to make Groundshaker.

Part of the first wave of Siege Micromasters, "Visper" (probably trademark reasons) transforms from a robot into a kinda-Cybertronian-y version of his original toy's altmode. He can combine with his packmate Storm Cloud to form the "Circuitstream Spyblade", reminiscent of the Armada Dark Saber. As a part of the C.O.M.B.A.T. System, their weapon mode can be attached to any toy with a 5 mm post-hole. His legs also sport a pair of rectangular tabs to attach "Fire Blast" effect pieces to, specifically the ones included with Lionizer and its redecoes. Due to the amount of kibble on his back in robot mode, the figure is relatively unsteady. Note that the picture to the right is mistransformed, with both Micromasters' wings not folded back in robot mode.

When initially revealed at SDCC 2018, this figure was labeled "Whisper", but the final packaging goes with "Visper".

Visper was redecoed into Nightflight and Groundshaker. This toy was also repurposed as the Autobot Micromaster of the same name in the Legends comic.

Raider Visper, Infantry-Patrol Leader is one of forty-eight double-sided character cards available in Wave 3 of the Transformers Trading Card Game, War for Cybertron: Siege I. In order to represent Visper's size as a Micromaster, Raider Visper, Infantry-Patrol leader is the size of a battle card, about half the size of a normal character card.

The card's artwork is based on the Siege Visper toy, with the Alt Mode artwork being reused from the toy's packaging art, and with original Bot Mode artwork (line-art by Dan Khanna and colors by Volta).

Notes

Whisper's vehicle mode appears to have been directly "inspired" by a 1988 Revell model kit of the proposed F-19 Stealth Fighter.
