Scrapmetal is a Decepticon Constructicon from the Revenge of the Fallen portion of the movie continuity family.

Unlike the other Constructicons, Scrapmetal is overlooked and disrespected due to his status as "ze little one". He transforms into a Volvo excavator, and can form Devastator's left hand if he is fortunate enough to be left alive by his teammates.

After the AllSpark shard was retrieved from NEST's secure bunker at Diego Garcia, Scrapmetal was among the Constructicons who secreted themselves aboard the Bayos freighter heading towards the North Atlantic. Once the ship passed over the Laurentian Abyss, Ravage flew onto the ship, hiding between Scrapmetal and Mixmaster while a sailor passed. Once they reached the specific site, the Decepticons jumped overboard and dove down to where Megatron's broken body lay.

Once they located his shell, Scalpel was released to assess their leader's condition. After a quick examination, Scalpel declared that he would need some spare parts to replace the ones destroyed in the battle of Mission City, and he ordered the death of the smallest Constructicon. Before Scrapmetal could protest, he was set upon by Long Haul and Mixmaster and beaten to death as they tore off the components needed to restore Megatron. Once these were attached, Scalpel struck Megatron with the shard, reviving the Decepticon leader. Scrapmetal's parts allowed Megatron to take the alternate mode of a Cybertronian tank with flight capabilities. He may have been honoured for all time for his sacrifice for the Decepticon cause. Released to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Revenge of the Fallen, Studio Series Constructicon Scrapmetal is a Deluxe-sized sculpt that transforms from an excavator into a robot mode based on a piece of concept art, presumably to differentiate it from Scrapper.

He comes with a small shield, made from a panel from the back of the excavator mode, and a cardboard backdrop display depicting Operation: Firestorm.

Scrapmetal can be combined with the rest of the Studio Series Constructicons to form Devastator. Specifically, he forms the left hand and attaches to Hightower, who forms the left upper arm. Hasbro's instructions omit the shield/panel in this mode entirely; TakaraTomy's instructions feature an extra step... and it just has the piece attached to the same place it gets attached to in robot mode, serving no obvious purpose. Promotional images of the Devastator combined mode shows the shield piece attached to the giant's left knee. This splotch of color is oddly placed when Rampage is used as the left leg, but swapping in the screen-accurate Skipjack suggests that the shield may represent part of Skipjack's mass, integrated further up the giant's thigh.

Like the majority of the Studio Series Constructicons, he lacks a Decepticon symbol.

This boxset contains 8 of the Studio Series Constructicons seen in the Revenge of the Fallen film. In order to keep Devastator accurate to his on-screen appearance, Skipjack is included in the set, completely omitting Rampage, as he was busy elsewhere.

Scrapmetal remains, mostly faithful to the original release above, save for some additional dirt paint applications on the buckets used for Devastator's fingertips.

The gift set was announced on the October 16 Fan First Friday.

Who is Scrapmetal?

The on-screen identity of Scrapmetal is a bit on the fraught side. In the flyover shot of the barge on which the four Constructicons sit, a bulldozer, a concrete mixer, a dump truck, and a yellow front-end loader are visible. These four vehicles then transform offscreen into the robot modes of Rampage, Mixmaster, Long Haul, and Scrapper, respectively, and descend into the ocean, where the Scrapper-model robot is identified as the "little one" of the group, and torn to bits for parts. As the movie treats the Constructicons as generic robots, their body types being shared by multiple different robots simultaneously, TFWiki initially created an article for this deceased Scrapper-model robot, separate from the "real" Scrapper, identifying him as "Ze Little One." When asked about this character during their December 2009 Q&A, Hasbro representatives were amused by the nickname, and noted that on their side, they referred to him as "Scrapmetal," though they incorrectly identified him as "the bulldozer" (that would be Rampage, not Scrapper). Based on this answer, TFWiki moved "Ze Little One"'s article to "Scrapmetal," and it's remained at that name ever since.

Hasbro also noted in their Q&A response that they had plans to release a toy of Scrapmetal in the future. This toy was evidently intended to part of the 2010 Transformers toyline "Megatron Rising" figure multi-pack, a set themed around the scene of Megatron's resurrection, which included figures of all the Constructicons involved: Rampage, Mixmaster, Long Haul and a red redeco of Scrapper representing "Ze Little One." However, the set's packaging (seen at San Diego Comic-Con 2010) wound up referring to the red Scrapper as just "Scrapper," rather than "Scrapmetal," suggesting a breakdown in communication somewhere. Ultimately it didn't matter, as the multi-pack was cancelled and never released.

This might all sound pretty simple, but poor continuity within the movie itself invited confusion. Y'see, immediately following the flyover shot in which the front-end loader is visible, when the angle switches to show Ravage crashing onto the deck, the loader has disappeared, and in its place now sits a yellow Volvo excavator, clearly marked with a large Decepticon insignia, which is prominently showcased menacingly raising its clawed arm. TFWiki's article noted this inconsistency, choosing to split the difference and distinguish "Ze Little One" from Scrapper even further by considering the excavatator to be his "correct" vehicle mode, even though it didn't match up to his Scrapper-model robot mode. A second, identical excavator could also briefly be seen later in the film, lining up with the other Constructicons just before they merged into Devastator, though it wasn't shown playing any part in the combination itself; you could see this as a continuity error, or as evidence that there are multiple "Scrapmetal-type" Constructicons, just as there are multiples of the others.

In 2019, Hasbro finally produced a figure of Scrapmetal for the Studio Series toyline, with the excavator as his alternate mode, and a unique robot mode based on a piece of Constructicon concept art created during the production of the film ten years earlier by artist Paul Ozzimo (seen at the top of this article). Contrary to the film, the toyline depicted Scrapmetal as a component of Devastator, taking the place of the unnamed yellow bulldozer that formed Devastator's left hand on-screen. This, of course, is not movie accurate, but Studio Series is no stranger to figures whose alt modes aren't movie accurate, so you probably shouldn't stress about it.

• One abandoned Constructicon concept by artist Steve Jung was a "nurse" that would have transformed into a Volvo wheel loader. It is unknown if this character later evolved into Scrapmetal.
