Hot Shot learns to find his place on the Rescue Bot Recruit team with the help of the Mul-T-Cog and his friends.

Synopsis

[edit]

A dejected Hot Shot enters the GroundBridge room, but is forced to hide when Whirl and Hoist come looking for him. Once they give up and leave, Hot Shot attempts to activate the bridge without sucess. Optimus Prime appears and announces he has something to show the young cadet. Hot Shot expresses his lack of confidence in his ability to be a Rescue Bot. Optimus presents Hot Shot with the Mul-T-Cog Badge, a relic that will bestow on the young bot the ability to transform into two more alternate modes, a jet and a hovercraft, but he can only use one mode per day. Hot Shot believes this will give him what he needs to be an effective rescuer.

Hot Shot rejoins the other recruits, who are taking instruction from Chase. After Hot Shot gets a question right, Wedge puts this down to luck, and Hot Shot takes this as a challenge. Chase has the recruits undergo an obstacle course, with Hot Shot and Wedge eagerly volunteering to go first. As the race starts, Hot Shot is delayed by Tough Luck Chuck on a crosswalk, but he manages to catch up with Wedge, and passes the other bot as they scale a rock wall. Hot Shot loses his grip partway up, allowing Wedge to slip into the lead again, however Hot Shot wins by using his new jet mode, much to the surprise of the other recruits.

The rest of the team are impressed at Hot Shot's multiple modes and the fact he knows Optimus, except Wedge who is still unconvinced he'll make a good rescuer. The rescue alarm goes off, and the recruits assemble to be informed by Heatwave that he's organized a rescue in the caves near Milford with Cody being who they'll need to rescue. The recruits roll out to the caves, and Hot Shot immediately charges in, followed by Wedge and the others. They end up at a dead end. After consulting a map, Hot Shot and Wedge take off again, however their jostling each other causes a cave in that traps Cody. As the recruits start digging the boy out, Hot Shot realizes his jet form is useless in the cave, however the other recruits encourage him to do his best, and he's able to use jets of water from his knuckles to weaken the rockfall, allowing them to rescue Cody.

Quotes

[edit]

"This is exactly what I need to prove to Wedge that I'm a better rescuer than- Uh, I mean, this will help me, ah, be a great part of the team!"

Hot Shot wears his motivations on his chassis.

"Please. You think your vehicle form is what makes you a hero? Rescue work is about who you are in your spark."

Wedge

"Any questions?"
"So is string cheese made of string or cheese?"
"Any questions about the rescue?"

Heatwave and Whirl

Notes

[edit]

Continuity notes

[edit]
  • The Mul-T-Cog Badge is revealed from a hidden compartment accessed using a bust of Charlie Burns.
  • As with the badges in the previous episode, the Mul-T-Cog appears to come pre-loaded with alternate modes. Optimus tells Hot Shot that it will only allow him to use one alternate mode per day, a fact which will be amended later in the series.

Transformers references

[edit]
  • The cube containing the Mul-T-Cog is covered in letters from the Autobot alphabet. Much as in Rescue Bots, that alphabet will be used as a general substitution cypher for on-screen text.
