Grayox is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.
His drawings seem especially good when you realize he's left-handed.

Grayox (グレイオックス Gureiokkusu) was born to a family of knights in the service of the Bistoram Dynasty. An A-class knight himself, capable of fighting at full strength even in watery environments, he wields the mighty Oakron (オークロン Ōkuron) blade, which with a proper charge can cleave just about anything in two in a single blow. Grayox put the full weight of his incredible power, endurance and tenacity to serving White Leo, and was granted the title of Emperor of his homeland Petra under King Graysharp.

But he's so much more than mere muscle. Behind his stern and disciplined demeanor is a real Renaissance beast. Within him beats the heart of a poet, and he spends his time studying the natural sciences. He also serves as advisor to King Graysharp, listening to the news as the royal rhino gets it and carefully analyzing it. He lives a simple and frugal life when not in battle, greatly preferring to live in peace and quiet, but is always ready to leap into action without the slightest hesitation should White Leo ever call on him.

  • Grayox (Beastformer, 1987)
  • ID number: 10
  • Pack: B
  • Accessories: Blade-weapon (usually)
Part of the first series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Grayox is an anthropomorphic water buffalo with blue-green robotic armor. His left arm ends in a twin-horn claw. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.
He usually comes with a bronze blade-weapon marked with the same ID number as on his back. However, Beastformers is notorious for toys coming with someone else's weapon; it's unclear if this was just originally poor QC, but in the sequel series, this semi-random weaponry was actually turned into a "gimmick".
He was only available in the "B Pack" assortment (which was only printed on the shipping case), and came in a red-grid generic "Cybertron Beastformer" box. He came with a Transformers-style bio card with a painted character image on a red grid backdrop, though there was a chance his bio card would instead be replaced with the rare "Holography Mirror" hologram card featuring Platinum Tiger.

Meiji candy toys

[edit]

  • Ramune Beastformers Battle Card (1988)
    • Meiji ID number: 27
A gold-foil "Battle Card" of Grayox, featuring his painted character art from his original bio card (seen at the top of the page), was available in randomly-packed sets of cards that came with ramune-flavored candy tablets, sold by candy/snack company Meiji, during the post-Transformers "RPG" sequel series. The back of the card features a severely truncated bio, with data for the game from the Meiji chocoball SD figures' packaging.
Though this card shows line-art of a super-deformed Grayox toy, no actual toy was ever produced.

Notes

[edit]
  • As he was not sold in the post-Transformers sequel series and thus had no bio card, his "RPG"-era bio comes from the Hero Special 4: Beastformers mook. This bio gives him the nickname "Oak" (オーク Ōku).
