The Transformers cartoon

[edit]

While fleeing the forces of Galvatron, a shuttle containing Hot Rod, Kup, and the Dinobots crash-landed on Quintessa. Hot Rod and Kup wound up on the metallic bed of a shallow sea, surrounded by vicious predators, and Kup was attacked and dismembered by a giant sea squid. When Kup called out for help, Hot Rod attempted to save him, though was soon wrapped up in crushing tentacles himself. Even as Hot Rod used his buzzsaw to cut tentacles off, the loudly bellowing squid was undeterred in its attack- but when a point-blank shot from Hot Rod destroyed one of its eyes, the squid retreated in a cloud of ink. Released to commemorate the 35th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie, Studio Series Kup is based on his appearance in the Generation 1 cartoon. His limbs are attached on 5 mm posts, and can be removed to recreate the scene of his repair by Hot Rod. Like other Studio Series figures, this piece includes a cardboard backdrop of an action scene - in this case, a close up of the squid looming behind Kup, complete with a severed tentacle tip and cloud of ink.
