A skidplate is a protective shield, applied to equipment such as an all-terrain vehicle, that protects vulnerable parts like manifolds, gearboxes, and presumably boron compressors from damage.

It is also a figurative location which others may be requested to kiss, or accused of kissing. This is generally done with some element of anger or disdain, and without any genuine desire for such contact to occur.

Peculiarily, this figurative contact may be hypothetically initiated voluntarily by the supposed kisser. Generally this is only found in third-person references to said kisser, and is a way to accuse him of trying to curry favor with the owner of the metaphorical skidplate in question.

*"Carblast keeps complimenting our leader.  It's totally insincere, but he thinks it's going to get him a promotion.  Carblast is such a skidplate-kisser."

*"Carblast can kiss my skidplate.  He's not getting any promotion."

This usage rather inexplicably mirrors human references to systems more analogous to Transformer tailpipes or exhaust ports.  Indeed, in human vernacular, these systems are frequently seen to figuratively require covering, rather than providing it.

Perhaps there is some link to human language after all, as their culture contains a well-known link between kissing and apologizing.

Transformers Roleplaying Game

[edit]

Skidplate and the other members of the Bee Team were dispatched to Indiana to deal with the Pit Crew, who were attempting to sabotage the Autobot Road. They discovered that the Decepticons had taken control of the nearby Indiana Speedway and seized a recently-landed energon meteor; after a brief showdown with the Decepticons, the team pursued the Decepticons back to their temporary base, where they confronted the Decepticons and their leader Scrap in final battle.
