Alt mode exaltation is a reward the Functionist Council extends to Cybertronians who have performed acts that benefit the glory of Primus its own goals. Presumably it involves the alt mode in question being considered especially favored in the eyes of Primus, or at least that it should be "appropriately venerated" by the hoi polloi. It could be a higher form of 'alt mode exemption', in which the Council would approve of a bot taking a job other than that dictated by their alt mode.

Sweep, a lowly janitorial bot, was declared to be alt mode exalted by One-of-Twelve after discovering that the previously-unknown purpose of Rung, held captive by the Functionist Council for being "useless" and, thus, a focus of anti-Functionst sentiment, was to produce photonic crystals.
