That looks painful.

The Matrix of Oppression is a powerful relic that houses the essence of all great Decepticon leaders. It imbues its wielder with the abilities to command and dominate the weak, bending their every action to its user’s will.

Where the Matrix of Leadership draws its power from Primus, the Matrix of Oppression is imbued with the wrath of The Fallen, the ill-fated Prime exiled for betraying his brethren. From his wrath, any soul unfortunate enough to be deemed worthy are placed under his indefinite servitude, and are granted a number of supernatural abilities such as mind control, self and ally regeneration, and even reanimation from otherwise fatal damage.

Before being deemed worthy of its power, Megatron had to endure hundreds of devastating trials fighting Sharkticons and the besital Mechanokoar, overseen by the Quintesson Prosecutor Dezimir. After the 500th trial, Dezimir bestowed upon Megatron the Matrix, granting him a third pistol mode that would allow him to override the will of anyone who wielded him. Transformers #19

Notes

[edit]
  • The spiky, purple, crystalline protrusions strongly resemble Dark Energon, a thematically similar "evil power-boost" a different Megatron used in Prime.
  • The previous Decepticon leaders shown in Megatron's vision alongside The Fallen include Trannis and Straxus, high-ranking Decepticons hailing from the original comic, US and UK respectively (though Trannis is depicted in his design from "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4", which was retconned to be him).
  • During Megatron's visions inside the Matrix, we see a bot who looks an awful lot like Trailbreaker, who Megatron notably killed and sucked-dry of Energon a few issues prior. Perhaps he savored every last drop a bit too much…
