A core bomb is a weapon of Quintesson design which served as a planet killer allowing for the destruction of an entire world.

The Quintessons had a core bomb installed somewhere on their homeworld of Quintessa which they detonated in their attempt at eliminating the leader of the Autobots along with the Matrix of Leadership, thus destroying the planet. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 2
