Piston is an Autobot from the 2005 IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
If he spent more time socialising, and less playing his Nintendo DS, Blurr might remember his name...

Piston is a member of Blurr's pit team, though his hard work is often overlooked by his supercilious boss who prefers to hang out with other racers. Despite the fact that Blurr can't even remember his name, Piston remains cheerful and upbeat.

Piston and his colleagues helped Blurr to the top of every championship of the Cybertronian races, though they received little credit when Blurr celebrated without them at The Circle. Shortly afterwards, the racetrack was destroyed and Zeta Prime called an end to the races, so Piston signed up to join the Autobots. He tried to persuade Blurr to come with him, but the racer was more interested in partying.

Piston was part of an Autobot squad that included Ironhide, Kup, and Optimus, sent to intercept Starscream's Decepticons intent on assassinating Zeta Prime.
