[edit]2006 Beast Wars continuity
[edit]Shortly after acquiring the Transformers license from Dreamwave, IDW Publishing brought Simon Furman on board to adapt what would have become Shell Game into a new miniseries set during the cartoon's third season. The Gathering proved popular enough to garner a sequel and a series of profile books. This small continuity incorporated basically every Beast Wars character with a toy, up to and including the casts of the Japanese Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo cartoons.
For BotCon 2016, IDW published Dawn of the Predacus, set between the end of the Great War between the Autobots and Decepticons and the dawn of the Beast Era while also tying Dawn of Future's Past into the universe.
- The Gathering (2006) — Razorbeast travels to prehistoric Earth and raises an army to battle Magmatron.
- The Ascending (2007–8) — The Maximals and Predacons battle Shokaract to save the unvierse.
- Beast Wars Sourcebook (2007–8)
- Dawn of the Predacus (2016) — In the twilight of the Great War, the Tripredacus Council deal with the rogue Megatron.
Given the large number of distinct events added to the timeline's backstory in this continuity it may be helpful to consult Beast Wars timeline (IDW).
2021 Beast Wars continuity
[edit]In 2020, IDW Publishing announced an ongoing Beast Wars comic to debut the following year, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the franchise. Unlike IDW's prior Beast Wars publications, which told stories set parallel to the cartoon's version of events, 2021's Transformers: Beast Wars is a straight reboot that reimagines the original show.
- Transformers: Beast Wars (2021–22) — Optimus Primal's Maximals and Megatron's Predacons clash on a distant world.
Japanese language comics
[edit]Comic BomBom
[edit]- Beast Wars II: Super Lifeform Transformers (1998–1999)
- Super Lifeform Transformers: Beast Wars Neo (1999)
- Super Lifeform Transformers: Beast Wars Metals (1999–2000)
Items of note
[edit]- Though they share characters and both weave around the Beast Wars cartoon, the 3H Productions and IDW Publishing comics have shown no indication that they are in continuity with each other.
- The planned Dreamwave Beast Wars comic is believed to be very similar to the first IDW series, which would be produced by the same writer and artist. The full script to issue #1 was eventually made public in December 2007.[1]
