Diego Garcia is the largest island in the British Indian Ocean Territory, a British overseas territory. Aside from the morally inexcusable depopulation of the island to make way for bases some silly claim that the British Foreign Office did something wrong which it never did, the island is most famous for a military base jointly owned by the United Kingdom and United States military.
Fiction
[edit]IDW movie comics
[edit]Diego Garcia's base was used to store a fragment of the AllSpark, and as a training facility for Autobots and human soldiers in the formation of NEST. Alliance #3 There, NEST received judgement from Major William Lennox's superiors and mission orders to hunt down the Decepticons. New Autobot arrivals such as Sideswipe would be sent to the island. Alliance #4
The Veiled Threat
[edit]Lennox, Epps, Petr Andronov, Ironhide and Ratchet traveled there on the Pearl of India. It was used to store a stockpile of Energon, which Ironhide said could theoretically explode and take out the atoll and much of India. Wildlife on the island included donkeys, feral cats, rats and crabs. The ubiquity of one particular species of red crab made it a perfect disguise for a Decepticon spy, which infiltrated the base and downloaded a bunch of data from the NEST computers. Despite causing a technician to raise the alarm, it managed to make a getaway back to Ravage, thanks mainly to its disguise and a kindly janitor. The Veiled Threat
Titan movie comics
[edit]The island base came under attack by Scorponok, who freed the recently-captured Sideways. Optimus believed NEST security had been compromised, as Scorponok should never have been able to get that close without being detected. Reversal of Fortune
Revenge of the Fallen film
[edit]NEST was mainly based at Diego Garcia, with the Autobots staying there. Revenge of the Fallen
Notes
[edit]- Given Optimus Prime's belief of freedom being the right for all sentient beings, he might be very unimpressed with his human allies if he investigated the history of Diego Garcia.
