Guardian Prime inherited the Matrix of Leadership from Prime Nova and became leader of the consumer goods robots following the rebellion that forced the Quintessons off Cybertron. These robots renamed themselves "Autobots", but their desires for a peaceful existence would be denied them by the military hardware robots, who were redubbed the "Decepticons", and waged war against Guardian Prime and his followers. Ill-equipped for combat, Guardian Prime was cut down in battle, and passed the Matrix onto Zeta Prime.

When Rodimus Prime journeyed into the Matrix in 2005, Guardian Prime was the fourth guide that he encountered. Guardian related to him the early days of peace on Cybertron, and the outbreak of the Autobot-Decepticon war. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4

Dreamwave Generation One continuity

[edit]

Guardian Prime was the second known Matrix-bearer. He followed Alpha Prime and was himself followed by Sentinel Prime. More Than Meets The Eye #8

Beast Wars: Uprising

[edit]

Preditron referred to Guardian Prime as the founder of the Autobots. Safe Spaces

Notes

[edit]
  • The cartoon robot was never named in the cartoon itself. Instead, he was referred to as "Pre-Transformer" in the dialogue script for "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4". Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac II came along and made the character into an incarnation of Guardian Prime in an Ask Vector Prime Easter egg.
  • An animation error results in the spectral image of Prime Nova appearing when Guardian Prime begins his narration, depriving us of an absolutely positive visual identification of the character. As the Rodimus-derived character pictured above appears during Guardian Prime's narration and is then shown dying and passing on the Matrix, it is assumed that he is intended to be Guardian Prime.
  • According to ABN in Recordicons #9, Vector Prime "always lies about Five Faces of Darkness". If true, this would mean that the guy in the picture isn't necessarily Guardian Prime; we're keeping this page as-is because there's no objective evidence either way, and Guardian Prime is more convenient as a page title than "Pre-Transformer", which we'd have to disambiguate.
