The name or term "Legends" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Legends (disambiguation).

Legends is a Generation 1 subline, available exclusively at Kmart in 1989. It consists of the four Classic Pretenders, but each were sold carded without their Pretender shells.

All four were also available in a box set in Japan.

The Transformers

[edit]
The four Legends toys, being the same as the Pretender Classics, are simplified re-imaginings of characters from the early years of Generation 1. Rendered entirely in plastic, they are designed to fit into a Pretender shell. Their standardized size means that while Grimlock got quite a bit smaller, Bumblebee actually grew a bit.

Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers

[edit]
  • Hero Set (Multi-pack, 1989)
In Japan, all four figures were released together in a windowed gift set, unaltered from their US counterparts, in 1989.

Notes

[edit]
  • Oddly, the decal sheet for each figure was unaltered from their boxed release, which means they included the decals designed for each robot's Pretender shell (i.e. Jazz and Bumblebee's helmet visors, and large faction symbols for each ). The on-package instructions were altered to show where to apply these otherwise superfluous stickers.
  • Additionally, Bumblebee and Jazz swapped weapons between their Pretender Classics and Legends releases.
