Phase shifter

The phase shifter is an Iacon relic that grants the user the ability to pass through solid objects. It works intuitively, allowing the user to phase through objects or not depending on the needs of the situation. Smokescreen has taken a liking to it, often using it as his "signature weapon".

The phase shifter was stored in the Vaults at Iacon until late in the war, when it was ejected into space as a safety measure when Megatron's forces stormed the Autobot capital. It made its way to Earth where it landed in the area where the humans would eventually build Manhattan. Knock Out and a unit of Decepticons discovered the relic in a Manhattan subway. At that time, none of the Autobots or Decepticons sent to find it knew what powers it possessed until Bumblebee accidentally activated it after retrieving it from Knock Out. The train which was barreling towards him passed straight through him and Arcee explained what the device was after they had defeated Knock Out. Smokescreen later borrowed it from the Autobots' storeroom and used it to cleverly remove Starscream from the Apex Armor. New Recruit He borrowed it again when he and Arcee went to find the first Omega Key, and it saved his life when Megatron hit him with a wave of energy from the Dark Star Saber. After he used it to save Optimus Prime and retrieve the Omega Key, Ratchet said he could keep it. Smokescreen was able to recover the phase shifter during the commotion in which Optimus Prime destroyed the Omega Lock. He utilized the device to recover a near-death Optimus from the wreckage of the base. Darkmount, NV Smokescreen used the phase shifter to also infiltrate the Decepticon warship to obtain the Forge of Solus Prime per Optimus's request. Prey

When the Autobots were duped into attacking Project Predacon, Smokescreen used the phase shifter to embed a Vehicon in a rock. Evolution

During the battle for the rebuilt Omega Lock, Smokescreen, after noticing Megatron was armed with the Dark Star Saber, used to the phase shifter to retrieve the Star Saber from the Decepticons' vault. Deadlock

Following Cybertron's restoration, Smokescreen protected himself against Darksteel's attacks with the phase shifter, later using it to get the wounded Ultra Magnus to safety. It was later taken from Smokescreen by Knock Out during a jail break by the Decepticons, only for Knock Out to use it to turn against Starscream, ending the rebellion. Part of the 2026 wave of Transformers: Age of the Primes Deluxe figures, Smokescreen is a Generations-styled version of the character, similar to previously released Prime-inspired Legacy figures. Smokescreen features a sculpted Phase Shifter molded into the wrist of his right hand.
