Transformers: Beast Wars Gum (トランスフォーマー ビーストウォーズ ガム) was a line of candy toys produced by Kabaya, the successor to Generation 1's Transformers Gum. The toys took the form of transformable snap-together model kits, formed from two colours of plastic, decorated with stickers, and packaged with a stick of gum. Unlike their predecessors, however, the Beast Wars Gum kits did not fully "transform", instead having been designed to break down into their component pieces, which could be rebuilt into the alternate mode.
Four Beast Wars Gum waves were released (each identified as a numbered "Part" from the second wave onward), spanning the original Beast Wars series, and the Japanese-exclusive Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo lines. Three "deluxe" (or "DX") Gum waves were also available, consisting first of larger models, then non-transforming PVC figurines.
Standard series
[edit]Part 1 (Beast Wars)
[edit]
These three kits were all sculpted from black and purple plastic, and each one featured the characters' mutant heads in addition to their standard ones. Primal came with his mace and swords, while Rhinox came with sword and "chain gun".
Part 2 (Beast Wars II)
[edit]
The second wave of figures were made from purple and gold plastic (yikes!). Each came with their standard weapons except for Galvatron, though he retained his triple-changing abilities despite his small size.
Part 3 (Beast Wars II)
[edit]
The three Jointron brothers were made from red and brownish-grey plastic, and could combine to form Tripledacus.
Part 4 (Beast Wars Neo)
[edit]
The final wave of figures were sculpted from blue and yellow plastic; the two Predacons were made out of both colors, while Longrack was entirely yellow, and Colada was completely blue.
DX series
[edit]Part 1 (Beast Wars)
[edit]
These larger kits were all made from tan and yellow plastic, and each came with their signature weapons. Although larger than the standard Beast Wars Gum kits, they were unfortunately not any more complex, and still transformed through dis- and reassembly.
Part 2 (Beast Wars II)
[edit]
Part 3 (Beast Wars II)
[edit]The figures from the second and third wave were not model kits at all, but instead, painted soft-rubber figurines, similar to the Decoys of Generation 1.
