- A slow cell/"Project: End In Tears" is a piece of technology from the IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

A slow cell is a unique kind of prison: within the cell a temporal dilation field creates a bubble in which time passes at a much slower rate. Thus, should the prisoner break free, five seconds for them would be thirty minutes for everyone outside the slow cell, and the captors could use the extra time to prepare to restrain the prisoner.

IDW Generation 1 continuity
The technology was invented by Brainstorm. A slow cell containing Overlord was attached to the bottom of the Lost Light prior to its launch, in the hope that Drift would be able to talk Chromedome into performing mnemosurgery on the Decepticon to discover the secret of making Phase Sixers. After Rewind had a near-death experience, Chromedome entered the slow cell without telling anyone, and ventured into Overlord's mind. During the procedure, Overlord managed to turn the tables and free himself. He deactivated the dilation field long enough to leave, and thus by the time Chromedome crossed the room and escaped the cell, Overlord had already had thirty minutes to start his massacre. Remembrance Day The Autobots eventually managed to force Overlord back into the slow cell and Chromedome initiated the procedure to detach the cell with Overlord and, unfortunately, Rewind inside. He then blew it up with the ship's cannons. Under Cold Blue Stars
